Redplantlady, your black and white photo is so sweet and you were an adorable child! You're making me want to rummage through all my black and white photos now. I have to resist though as I have some catching up to do with bookkeeping. I work from home.

hem18, your girls are fanatastic. Really. They all make me smile. Was one of them special to you or maybe a best friend? Don't mind me. I love listening to people's stories. And we all have our stories.

I'm thinking about doing my ghosts in color and doing a layer of thinned out white acrylic paint on top. So like you are looking at them though a veil.

Bluesky, I think that would give it a very interesting effect but would the acrylic paint be too opaque maybe? I'm not sure but maybe test it out on a scrap piece of paper so you don't ruin an ATC.

Going to thin acrylic with water. Test scrap is a good idea.

kfaye and JavaZarf welcome.

Sound neat BlueSky. If the test doesnt work out maybe try matte medium or clear gesso on art first. then the white wash.

Pat, Bob and David were the children of our neighbors when I was a small child. Our families were friends for many decades after we were no longer neighbors.
Our families were very different.
Their mother was a professor, had small farm animals, pigs, goats, rabbits and geese, and she also had a greenhouse where she tended rare orchids.
Their father was an airplane pilot and flew to Hawaii and other places. This was before Hawaii was a state.
Their father was gone a lot and their mother was busy with a lot of things and the children were not her first priority.
We were fascinated by their animals and “exotic” life style.
My mother was a full time mother and my father was an electrician.
Pat, Bobby and David were attracted to our nurturing mother and homey lifestyle, especially Pat and Bobby who were allowed to come up the hill to see us by themselves.
Pat and Bobby both married and had children. The last I heard, David was living a bohemian life.

Pat was my age, Bobby two years older and David two years younger.

Pat had quirks. One of them was that she liked to butter bread. She did not like to eat bread; she just liked to butter it. Somehow this was ignored by her parents and at the end of a meal she would have two or three slices of buttered bread under her plate.
Pat.jpg

Bobby was funny without meaning to be funny. Our family often quoted one of his inadvertently funny statements.
“You know what I heard in the bushes? Something!”
Bobby.jpg

David was a rambunctious child. He had an accident and lost his left eye when he was about two. Oddly enough, when I was working on his sketch there was a flaw in the paper where I was drawing his eye. I considered fixing it somehow, but thought it was kismet.
David.jpg

I purposefully drew these children in a vague way on a textured surface because even though I have many memories of them, their child faces are a blurry memory. I drew them on restaurant coasters that I cut to ATC size. I scraped off the majority of the picture that was printed on them, which left the surface with bits of color and an uneven surface. The sketches were done with colored pencils.
