Swap Due Date - Friday August 2nd
Number of Cards - 3 for 3 or 6 for 6
Number of participants -unlimited
Medium: alcohol inks on Yupo as well as clear surface,
such as acetate or clear film

Awhile back I hosted Neuro Art .That art had a specific technique and one might have thought the art would be the same. No, there were so many variations. So this alcohol ink swap also has a specific technique. It is kind of like making a sandwich.
1. First layer is Yupo or another nonpourous surface. You want to cover most of this surface with inks. I am fascinated with lines of ink....some stay narrow & others expand. Or I still like those drops of color. Whatever you like.

2. Second layer is a small lightweight something. I used dictionary text on one of my cards, some punchinella on one & a used postage stamp on the last. You could paint acrylic on small paper piece, or rubber stamp something. You do not want to add thickness.

3. Third layer is clear. I used plastic film. Clear acetate would work. Or plastic packaging. Again, something nonporuous. And you do not want to cover the whole surface. Actually you want some empty spaces.

4. You have to attach the layers together. Glue, brads, tape around edges are options. I used staples on my first one. One at the top and one at the bottom. The 2nd two were hole punched on the bottom and top and tied with string. Also your 1st layer must be adhered to something sturdy such as watercolor paper or thin cardboard.

5. both inked layers must be 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. i usually make something larger and cut out the most interesting parts.

6. Include at least your user name, location & date on your card backs. Insert card into sleeve.

Mailing information- Send a paper with your mailing address. Envelopes will be provided.
US players -send along 1 or 2 forever stamps

I have 2 examples which could be posted. But I no longer remember how to do that. But if someone is willing to post them for me, send me a conversation. I would mail them to you (and you can keep them.) And then you could post them on the swap thread.

@NancyL, here are instructions so you can attach a digital photo of your cards to your post from your computer or device.

Attaching images to a post from your computer/device :
At the bottom left of the "Post Reply" box is a paper clip with "Attach files" next to it.
Click on "Attach Files"
That brings up the option to Select the image from your computer/device.
Select/highlight the relevant image.
Click "open" or save or whatever your computer/device gives you.
The image shows up at the bottom of the post with Insert at the top left. Click the "Post Reply", and your image is attached to the post.

There is more about uploading images here with screen shots that may help explain. https://www.atcsforall.com/forums/threads/gallery-how-to-get-around-tips.39688/

Let me know if you need more assistance. :)

My plan is to make a graduation card for one of my granddaughters. But I got to playing.
One of the alcohol ink selections came with a carrying case. Which I'm not sure will be useful. but it also came with a spongy thing that you punch out holes. Those holes are super duper cute sponges. Maybe the diameter of a dime. (the size of a bottle of alcohol inks). I poured out some inks on a plastic lid and tried sponge painting on acetate.

As long as your "paint" is alcohol inks, I don't think it matters how you apply it. Drips and lines turn out well. But feel free to experiment.

so my top and bottom layers need to have some alcohol ink on them somewhere but still need to let the middle layer show through? and then they all need to be attached to each other somehow
intriguing - sign me up, please

Welcome, Donnacr.

the ways I've attached the layers is punch a hole at top and bottom and tie on with string...punch a hole in each corner & add brads...staple,..
glued with gel medium. But you might think of another way.

I'm getting my husband involved in art. I've begun an art ministry at church. I encourage adults to come make art once a month. My husband participates and last time we did alcohol inks. Yesterday he showed me his alcohol ink that he had taped to the window pane and one in the bathroom. He wants to make something bigger so maybe we will do that today.

Hi Nancy,
My third layer is a small piece of acetate.
I do not understand if you want the acetate to completely cover the first layer. Also, does the third layer has to have ink too?

The first layer and the third layer are the same size. They should both be 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. The smallest layer is the middle one.

I've done drops or fat lines on my first layer. Something that covers the whole thing. Then there is something small. Some text, punchinella, a photo, a used stamp. something to draw interest.
The last layer is clear. I've tried acetate as well as something called plastic film. You put some inks on that but leave spaces so your bottom art shows through.

I think I got it now. Thank you!
