Swap Due Date –Thursday, Dec. 20th,2024
Signup/withdraw Date –None; please just communicate
Number of Cards -3 for 3
Number of Participants –Unlimited
Media– Open Media, excluding exclusively digital
Theme– Ancient Archaeological Sites

We live in a fascinating world that has been populated by so many diverse people and cultures. The field of archaeology has studied these people and all the material culture they created. For this swap, we will focus on ancient cultures of the world and the things they have left behind. Each of your ATC cards should feature at least one real-world archaeological site. You could focus on well-known sites such as the pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China, or Pompeii; or you could feature lesser-known sites such as Copan (Honduras), Ostia Antica (Italy), the Plain of Jars (Laos), or the Ajanta Caves (India). The possibilities are endless, so have fun!

Card Guidelines:
1. Each card must be the standard ATC size of 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
2. Each card must be original and unique. Please don’t send in cards that you’ve swapped/traded in the past or plan on replicating for swapping/trading in the future.
3. Any embellishments must be relatively flat and lightweight.
4. Please send in only work that you have put thought, time, and effort into. Make sure that you are swapping a card you would be happy to receive.
5. Please make sure that cards have a sturdy background and earn the name “card.”
6. Each card must be in an individual plastic sleeve (please no connecting photo album sleeves without also including individual sleeves).
7. Each card should be labeled with the swap name, your username, your real name, date of creation, and your location.

Mailing Guidelines:
1. Please mail cards in a business sized envelope, spreading the cards over the space of the envelope.
2. If you tape your cards together or onto a sturdy background when mailing, please use an easy-release tape such as painter’s tape or washi tape. I don’t want anyone’s beautiful artwork to be damaged by tape.
3. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your return cards.
4. If you are mailing from the U.S., one Forever stamp should cover the cost of returns.
5. If you are mailing internationally, please provide one of the following for your returns:
a. One U.S. Forever stamp.
b. One well-concealed $1 bill.
c. $1 payment via PayPal.

*When you are ready to mail your cards, please just private message me for my address. If you have it from an earlier swap, it has not changed.
*iTraders will be given when cards are received by me.
*Please note that cards must be received by the due date. No cards and no communication will result in neutral iTrader. You may withdraw any time before the due date.
*A host card would be greatly appreciated and loved, but is never required. :)
*Please make sure to leave Feedback for your host (me) and Reputation Points for the artists that created your return cards when you receive them.

Please add me. I usually wait until I make my cards but I KNOW I won’t feel a last minute pressure to make cards for this. I am so intrigued by stone circles and chamber tombs…it will be hard to decide what to paint.

Wonderful, jo! I figured this was up your alley! :)

Welcome to the lurkers' couch, CiCiCreates! Hope you decide to join us!

In 2013, I had the lucky opportunity to visit Newgrange in Ireland. This megalithic passage tomb dates to around 3200 B.C.E. It is aligned so that the rising sun on the winter solstice lights up the passageway to the burial chamber. Such an amazing site!

Newgrange is one of those places I always wanted to see. When in Scotland a number of years ago we visited a similar site that was aligned with a solstice.

If I get to travel again internationally in the future, England and Scotland are at the top of my list! But in Ireland we saw so many fascinating sites. Not just Newgrange, but dolmens and ring forts--and castles, of course! So much history!! It was absolutely fascinating.

Here are my cards:

Ogham Stone
Colaiste Ogham Stone, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, Ireland
The ogham alphabet originally consisted of 20 characters. The origin of ogham was thought to be 1st C CE.

Ring of Brodgar Stone Circle, Scotland
Dates to 3rd C BCE. There were originally 60 stones, but only 27 are standing.

Skara Brae, Orkney, Scotland
This is one of the best examples of Neolithic living quarters. It is located on the Orkney, Scotland island of Mainland. This site dates from about 5000 years ago. The village housed farmers and fishermen.

Unstan Chambered Cairn, Orkney, Scotland
This is a Neo;othic chambered cairn probably built between 3400 and 2800 BCE. It is located on the island of Mainland, Orkney, Scotland.
