Around The World Bahamas Swap

Let's take some trips around the world. There are so many cool places out there. Our next trip will be to Bahamas. For this swap you will be making three different ATCs. Each ATC must depict something that this particular country is well known for. No ATCs with the same theme on them, please. Make each ATC of a different thing. Some of these trips will be really easy & others you will need to think outside of the box on.

NITTY GRITTY:

For the most part I swap media for media. If you do HD/HP you will more than likely receive the same back. Same for collage/mixed media. All ATCs need to be put in to sleeves to protect them from the elements. Sometimes there are only a few ATCs in certain medias; if that happens you will receive random media ATCs in return. Stickers can only be used very minimally.

To send your swaps please write the name of the swap on the outside of the envelope. Send a self addressed envelope with at least as much postage as it took to send your swaps to me. This is how you will receive your returns. International players will need to send a forever stamp to get their swaps back or two one dollar bills. I also have Pay Pal address, as well. International swappers please also send a large label with your name & address on it. I will provide the envelopes for international swappers. All other swappers need to provide their own envelopes. I am really recommending that everyone send their swaps in a business size envelope. They are approximately 9 1/2 x 4 1/4. These seem to go through the mail better than the smaller sized envelopes. The mail in WA state tends to run slow since it has to go to so many places so please don't wait until the last minute to send your swaps. Late swaps will be returned to the sender with possible neutral feedback. If you do send heavy or thick ATCs please be courteous & send extra postage to help make sure they get to the partners they need to go to. Mail is going up so please make sure you are putting proper postage on your swaps, regardless. Please do not go over-board on taping your envelope or using washi. They are the two worst things to have to deal with regarding my arthritis. Thank you, I appreciate it. You can hardly ever go wrong with painter's tape.:adoration:

It is always fun to see what people are coming up with so please feel free to post your ATCs to the thread. Once I have received your ATCs (on time) I will leave feedback for you.

Once you have received your returns please let me know if I have done a good job or not by leaving feedback, as well, A host ATC is always appreciated but not expected. If you have any questions at all about the swap please feel free to contact me or ask in the thread.

I want to travel with you some more. Here are my cards. I deliberately avoided iconic sandy beaches with palm trees because I know I can draw that. Instead I started with sea shells and branched out to other animals found in the Bahamas.

View attachment 799571 Queen Conch Shell (Strombus gigas, also called Lobatus gigas)

View attachment 799572 Triton's Trumpet (Charonia titanis).
This is one of the largest shells found in The Bahamas, up to 18 inches. This mollusk feeds on other mollusks and starfish by secreting a fluid that paralyzes its prey.

View attachment 799573 Tun Shell (Tonnidae)
This is a medium to very large sea snail. The snail that lives within the shell is larger than the shell and may have a huge foot that is pulled into the shell. They feed mainly on fish and sea urchins.

View attachment 799574 Bahamian Starfish or Bahamian Sea Star (Oreaster reticulatus)
This starfish is related to the sand dollar. It can live up to 35 years. They hunt mollusks and other starfish. In order to eat, they turn their stomachs inside out. If a starfish loses an arm, it can grow a new one.

and the rest...

View attachment 799575 Black Sea Urchin (Diadema antillarium)
The spines are very long, 4 - 8 inches.

View attachment 799576 Sand Diver (Synodus intermedius)
This fish can change its coloration to match the ocean floor. It may be hard to see, though it can be up to 18 inches long.

View attachment 799577 Rock Iguana (Cyclura cyclura)
Found on the islands of Andros and Exuma.

Yay, Tillygo & jo.on.the.go!! Jo, I really like your idea of trying to portray something different than just beaches (even though I would have loved a beach scene or two:adoration:)

I have one more to do so please sign me up. My husband inherited, along with his brother and his brother's daughter, their father's retirement property on Abaco and Alan's complaints gave me an idea or two for something to paint. BTW, if anyone's interested, they're trying to sell the property. It's beachfront and the home he was building when he died survived the hurricane - my father in law died about 6 months before the hurricane hit.

Happy to sign you up, Ancient Planter. I'd love to live in the Bahamas. What kind of price does a place like that cost?

fg: I think they're asking about $100,000 US for it - about an acre of beachfront property with a tennis court already put in and a bit of the house built. My f-i-l bought the property back in 1964, I think (long before I became a part of the family). He also had the lot of land behind the beachfront lot and had a small house/mobile home on that one that he lived in it. It was his retirement place. He lived in Marsh Harbour on Abaco Island. I've never been there, but every year hubby was forced to spend his school holidays there working on the property. He hates the Bahamas because of that (and the poisonwood trees that got him every time) and swears he'll never go back, not even to take me. Oh well.
Here are my cards for the swap. They went out in yesterday's mail.

Those are great ATCs, Ancient Planter. I like how green everything is. I wonder how much down they'd take for the property?

AP - Tell us about the Poisonwood Trees.
From what Alan tells me, poisonwood trees are like poison oak or poison ivy, only worse. If it starts to rain and you stand under one, the rain dripping off the leaves can give you a horrific rash. If you burn the leaves or any part of the tree, then breathe in some of the smoke, you'll have the extreme irritation inside your lungs and sinuses. And Alan says it got him every single time he was down there, no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. Also, the noseeums, which are tiny little bugs, like mosquitos but smaller, that "are known for their painful bites and can cause itchy lesions due to their saliva." They're so tiny that window screens can't keep them out.
