Swap Due Date - July 17
postage for non-Australians: June 19
I live in Australia - mail will NOT reach me quickly! I suggest you allow at least 4 weeks.
Number of Cards - 3:3 or 6:6
Number of participants - unlimited
Media - any and all but needs to make the required technique - 1 card using WARM colours, 1 card using COOL colours, 1 card using colours of your choice
These are backgrounds ONLY, not completed cards.

MAILED JULY 26

I have been playing in a lot of Athons lately and everyone is always preparing backgrounds. I thought that I would run a series of swaps just for backgrounds made using different techniques - the second will be 'OMBRE'.

The dictionary definition is: "Ombré /ˈɒmbreɪ/ (literally "shaded" in French) is the blending of one colour hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark"

My preferred colouring medium is Distress Oxides but I also have examples in oil pastels and Inktense (watercolour) pencils.

then I tried for greys in all these mediums IMG_3865.jpg

Please post to the thread to sign up or you can't get fun Rep points.

PM me for my address when you are ready to mail - if you have an address in Robina, I am still there. I am an on time Host so please take note of the suggested mail time at the top of the thread.

POSTAGE:
Australian players: please include a $1.50 stamp
International players: please include a well-hidden US$2 OR a Global Forever stamp.

ALL players please include a LARGE address label, I will supply envelopes.

Clearly write your USERNAME and the SWAP NAME on the back of all your cards, or include a loose piece of paper with your background so that you can get Rep points and recognition when the background is used in the future.

An extra card for the swap Host is greatly appreciated but is not required.

I will give iTrader when I receive your cards and will also update this post. In return I encourage you to give iTrader Host feedback to me when you receive your returns, and Rep comments to the artists whose cards you receive. After all, knowing where your cards went is half the fun I think.

welcome Betsyg and Tillygo.
I do hope that you enjoy my comfortable lurkers' couch JavaZarf but I would love to have you come and join us.

I really need someone who is comfortable with paint/ crayons/ etc to show me how to improve my examples. I am the first to admit that they look very rough :embarrassed:

welcome to The Walnut Tree, lovely to see you here

I am also playing in this swap so if there is one of my examples in the first post that you would like in your returns, just ask (except for the green Distress oxide - I used that as a background for another card already)

Here are my cards, would be mailing them on Monday.
I used oil pastels, and then applied a coat of Liquitex satin varnish, because since oil pastels don't dry, they were too sticky.

does Black to White count as cool? I finished and was about to get them ready to mail when I had second thoughts that that one was more neutral than cool. Let me know. I had such fun doing these doing a few more will not be a problem.

the Black to white card can count as your number 3 - combination of your own choice. I agree that it really is more neutral than cool.
so glad that you had fun

I did an additional couple of cards including this blue one. My new scanner is a disappointment and the gradations on the blue card are not showing up well. These will go out this afternoon.

My town in Iowa escaped the worst of the tornadoes yesterday, though my daughter lost a huge branch from the biggest tree in their yard. It just missed the chicken coop! The worst damage is south and west of us. One of the bigger twisters came within 10 miles or less of Ames. Send prayers for all of those impacted by these dreadful storms!

Betsyg - I love your extra cards, I can't wait to see them in real life. I have a collection of Gelatos and didn't even think of using them for this swap - how did you blend your colours?

My latest scanner is next to useless also. I have got to the stage where I just use it as a printer now - it pales any colours that it scans and will not allow me to scan true size ATCs, it either cuts off the edges or gives me miles of extra space (no good for adding to my Gallery)

I am so glad that you were not affected by the horrible storms - I didn't realise that they were fully fledged tornadoes
I know some people were losing power and internet but I didn't realise they were that bad.

I put down overlapping stripes of color and then with a damp make up sponge blended everything together from light to dark. I went back with the crayons and touched up any thin looking spots and blended again. Then a good spray of workable fixative.

The tornadoes were terrible. The little town of Greenfield was flattened and 6 people were killed. My town was very lucky.
