Bats may have a fearsome reputation, but these amazing winged creatures play a critical role in our ecosystem. They help pollinate plants and keep predatory insects at bay, thereby protecting our food supply. They can fly 60 mph, eat more than 1,000 mosquitoes an hour and are the only flying mammals. Sadly, while there are 1,400 bat species worldwide, about 25% of their populations face extinction.

This swap celebrates the remarkable bat. You can go realistic or whimsical, hand-drawn/painted or mixed media. Just make sure your bat is the focus of your card (not a tiny detail). Multiple bats are perfectly fine. As long as your bat is the central figure, you can do anything you want.

Requirements

  • Send 3 different cards.
  • ATC size (2.5” x 3.5”)
  • Enclose cards in plastic sleeves.
  • Your name, user name, swap name, location on the back of each card
  • Cards must be ATCs (not APCs).

Media

All media are welcome, except exclusively digital & photography. No bulky embellishments!

Mailing

  • Do not send envelopes. I will provide them.
  • Include a large self-addressed label.
  • PM me for my address when you are ready to mail. If you have my North Babylon, NY, address, it's still valid.

Postage
U.S. players: Please include one Forever stamp.
International players: Please send one Global Forever stamp or $2 (USD).

Deadlines/iTrader

  • Cards must be received by October 14, 2023. Please allow sufficient transit time, as late cards will be returned.
  • A host card is appreciated, but in no way required.
  • If I’ve missed anything here, please PM me!

…hanging upside down in a dark corner and lurking…

We have a bat colony under the Waugh Bridge in Houston. It's fascinating to watch them all come out at dusk and go hunting!

I'll lurk for a bit and see if I can get some good ideas.

Welcome, everyone! Hope the lurkers will enter the bat cave!

Welcome, Donnacr! Hope you'll join us, lurkers.

I've been trying to attract bats to my house for many years. Maybe this will help! Please sign me up

I'm a lurker. It's time for the bat walks and talks in my area. I remember watching them one night as they flew out from under a bridge. There was this long black ribbon in the sky and it was just so amazing. I've also been up close and pretty personal with some bats when I was camping.

Welcome, mybrokenart! Hope you'll join us, TrinaLD.

Hundreds of years ago, when I was a little girl, my folks would take my sister and me spelunking. We'd go into caves and bats by the hundreds hung above us. It was spooky and fun. I think we did this for something affordable to do but maybe it was just to get out of the summer's heat. I am a pale person unable to tan and easy to burn!

I used to love family vacations to caves and caverns. But bats still scare me a bit! Too many Dracula movies.
