Winter Birds ATC Swap Due March 1, 2024

I just posted a photo of my birds in my Swaps gallery. Decided to just break out the binoculars (which I keep at the window anyway) and do some of the birds I was seeing right then and there at my feeders: chestnut-backed chickadee, red-breasted nuthatch, spotted towhee, and a few of days ago we had a sharp-shinned hawk sitting on the feeder, hoping some birds would pop by for him to eat. I did fill up the feeders yesterday in preparation for the cold that's hitting now through the weekend (17 degrees F. right now at my feeders). There's been a plethora of birds out there this morning in the cold and dusting of snow we got last night and so far I've submitted 2 eBird checklists. This morning we've had at our feeders: Anna's hummingbirds, Northern flickers, House finch, Pine siskin, Goldfinch, Dark-eyed junco, Spotted towhee, a Downy woodpecker, Pileated woodpecker, Black-capped chickadee, and Red-breasted nuthatch. If I feel like going out in the cold later I'll go refresh the feeders.
 
Wow, Colleen, you are so fortunate to have so many feathery visitors! How fun! I really feel like I have to take a very long drive somewhere to see anything of interest or variety.

Thanks, Carol. We've also got a European Starling out there right now, the first I've seen at our house in 2 years. A few days ago we also had a stellar's jay making a lot of noise and monopolizing the feeders, and a couple of bald eagles circling around. I hate the bald eagles because I have to stand next to my dachshund at all times when she's outside since they'd happily fly off with her. Our neighbors have had several chickens taken by the eagles, unfortunately.

@Ancient Planter, your birds are awesome!

We're up to 9F. We have a few Anna's hummingbirds wintering over and are busy (we meaning hubby) exchanging the hummingbird feeders on rotation. We have two outside, one in front and one in back. All are double bubble wrapped which gives them about an hour before they freeze, and gives time for the frozen to thaw.
Other birds we're seeing today are the black cap and chestnut backed chickadees, spotted towhee, white crown sparrows, song sparrows, juncos, a few finches. I haven't seen our winter wren today, I hope it's doing alright. We have a red tail hawk that hangs about, along with a coopers hawk. And some days we're lucky to see the great blue heron flying to the pond up behind the house. Of course, many of these are year round in our neck of the woods.
 
A cool bird story - Wednesday we stopped at my sons apartment to drop some things off, and as we were parking a bald eagle and raven flew in and landed nearly next to each other in a tree a bit off from son's deck. The raven was talking up a storm, the eagle just sat there. Then another eagle flew in and landed a few trees away, just hanging out. Then a second raven flew in to land with the other raven, both chatting with the eagle ignoring them. We quietly got out of the car and upstairs to son's apartment. He could see them out his side window!!!! Be still my heart. lol. The ravens took off and the eagles just sat there. There were still there when we left.
