Birds In The Wilderness V W X Swap/ATCs/Open Media/Due Date: October 19, 2026

I read the pinned posts, and still am hazy on what happens. You send the cards with your return envelopes to the host — and the host returns 3 — does the host randomly pick from those sent? Oh I read the rules more carefully, I see how it’s done for this swap.

I just joined last year & the Forums have some great info when you have time - this week I found one with a video that shows a host doing an actual swap out - very interesting. I don't spend a lot of money - just add a few things as I go along. I still cut cards from cardboard food boxes like cereal or 🤫Little Debbie Treats. Stiff but not heavy. I glue backgrounds and collages directly to these. If it's hand drawn/hand painted like this one, I draw in a sketchbook and glue to the card. The sleeves are sport card sleeves - they are all the same so get the cheapest. I've added black fine micro markers and some white ones. A small paper cutter really helps making cards and a punch that rounds the corners is a big plus. Whew that was more long winded than I meant it to be. Mostly just have fun making the art.😁

Hi SageSparrow! Welcome to A4A. Hope you are enjoying it here. It can be a bit over-whelming at first but over time it does get easier. Practice makes perfect:giggle: Thanks to janae for answering some of your questions. As far as favorite paper goes; it really depends on the media you are using. I don't draw; just collage so I use card stock and pre-cut ATC blanks but I also back them with cereal board/cracker boxes/ice cream boxes; anything that is sturdy. For drawing, it really depends on what you are drawing with. Since I don't draw I am not a good source for that but maybe some of the other artists will jump in to help you out. For the paper it depens on what i use.. i. Like to work mostly with watercolor, so i need a thicker paper.. i recently bought on on Amazon cards already cut i just use alcohol or acrylic markers on it. I also cut from my waterrcolor papers..this usually ends with a bit bigger cards, sometimes I have to trim them to fit on the sleeves

As other members said, when it comes to paper is really a matter of choice and medium. Personally, most of the time I use watercolor paper that I cut myself with a paper trimmer, and I also like to round the corners, as @janae said.
I use watercolor paper when I draw and paint in watercolor, acrylics, markers or oil pastels. If I use soft pastels, I use pastel paper, like Canson Mi-Teintes or even sandpaper, that again, I cut myself and then glue the back to sturdier base, like watercolor paper or cardstock. Use what you have, don't overthink it :giggle:
When it comes to the 4th card for the host, I never tell them which one is for her/him. I just send 4 cards, and they choose the one they want to keep.

Love the lettering! I want to learn how to do lettering for my art, just got a second hand book to practice. Unfortunately, the previous owner used to smoke, and I can't stand the smell that comes out of the pages, so I haven't been able to use it as of yet. 😥

I have a whole Pinterest board of fonts and I 'draw' the letters from these just like other reference pictures.
