TRASH TO TREASURE SWAP 2025, a Tribute to CastleQueen5

Mixed media and collage.
Please no glitter.

Heather Farah (CastleQueen5) will be missed. She hosted many swaps and she created the Trash 2 Treasure swaps with lots of challenging items to spark everyone’s creativity. Sometimes the swaps were house-shaped, coins or other shapes. Some of the interesting “trash” items included were puzzle pieces, paint chips, mad-gabs, bingo cards, and totally tacky items.

This swap is presented to everyone as a celebration of CastleQueen5.

Each envelope of trash will have a variety of items. Some items will be the same type but slightly different.

ATCs need to be 2 1/2” by 3 1/2” on a sturdy base.

  • Every ATC should be an original.
  • Each card needs to have a focal point.
  • Do not try to use every piece of trash on a card.
  • You are not required or expected to use all the trash
Everyone is eligible to join this swap.

The only requirement is to use one piece of trash on each card.

Use of a piece of trash includes altering the trash: cut, rip, tear, paint, sand, or spray anything with ink, etc. You can use trash items as a tool, cut a shape and make a print, use the item as a stencil or mask, or use an item to apply paint or ink.

On the back of your card include your AFA username and real name.

TO SIGN UP

Post to the thread to sign up and send me a direct message with your mailing address.

When I receive your message, I will mail you your trash envelope.

This swap is limited to 30 players.

Please post to the thread when you have received your trash items.

When you have completed your cards, please post them in the thread for others to enjoy.

I will pay for mailing the initial envelope of trash to all participants.

MAILING YOUR CARDS

Send me a direct message for my address when you are ready to mail your ATCs.

Include a mailing label with your address clearly written or typed.

I will provide envelopes and postage for returns.

I live in Florida, please mail your cards in time for me to receive them by the due date.

AFTER YOUR RETURN CARDS ARE RECEIVED

When you receive your returns, please post in the swap thread that you have received them.

Thanks to CastleQueen5 for starting this series; and all the other hostesses who have jumped into the trash swap dumpster.

Please Join our tribute to the Queen of Trash Swaps!

I’d like to play, but I live in the UK. Can I contribute something towards the cost of postage to the UK? I’m happy to - I know it’s more expensive to post abroad.

I traded MANY times with Heather and loved her enthusiasm and work! I miss her encouragement and beauty she added to this online community!
I would be honored to participate in this swap, please!

I would like to join please, this sounds like a very fun idea and although I wasn’t part of the site while CastleQueen was playing, I’d love to try the idea that she created.

Hello everyone.
I am overwhelmed with all the early participants.
I will have the player's list updated shortly.
Don't forget to direct message me your address if you haven't already.

As for players outside of the US.
My test envelope went to Canada.
The post office clerk questioned the contents, so I will be removing those three items in question for any envelopes going to another country.

Thank you so much!

If you added a note with what the items were when removing them for other countries, people might be able to add their own ‘trash’ in to replace it. But also, having never seen the envelopes before it could be that there is plenty left so three wouldn’t make a noticeable difference, and that would just needlessly complicate life 😄

When I started with ATCs, I never imagines that some days getting stuff posted would involve as much creativity and trial and error as making cards!

These are the extra pieces removed from non US players. Popdots and puzzle pieces.

They are very small, but the problem is that the clerk could feel them and could tell they were not just paper.
So my advice is for people in UK and Canada to not use similar items.
There should be enough other "trash" in your envelope to make something nice.
