Swap Due Date - December 14
suggested postage date for non-Australians - Nov 16
I live in Australia - mail will NOT reach me quickly! I suggest you allow at least 4 weeks.
Number of Cards - 3:3 or 6:6
Number of participants - unlimited
Medium - aluminium kitchen foil and alcohol inks, embossing folders (2D or 3D) &/or embossing stylus

I love using my Alcohol inks and was very happy to find another way to use them to make gorgeous ATCs.

Most of the following videos use an embossing folder to make the design on your card but others also show how you can add your own design using a simple embossing tool (also used to shape flowers, etc).
'Amazing Alcohol ink cards using hardware foil' by Hop-a-long studio - this is a fantastic introduction to the topic, giving many options as to making the initial card and then how to colour it.
'Alcohol ink on embossed foil' by Color Flutter Creations - different methods of applying the inks and the different effects gained by using the embossed versus debossed designs
'Alcohol ink on dry embossed aluminium foil panels' by Handi Scandi - layering and MANY samples/colours
if you want to go down a wonderful rabbit hole visit Oarsum Crafts made by KJ - she shows a LOT of inspiration for ATCs. For this topic visit Tutorial 30 and Tutorial 8 (parts 1 and 2) for a great start.

NOTE - these are BACKGROUNDS, not finished cards - we are just playing with alcohol inks on a different surface.

Post to the thread to sign up or you can't get fun Rep comments.

PM me for my address when you are ready to mail - if you have an address in Robina I am still here. I am an on-time Host so please take note of the suggested postage date at the top of the thread.

Postage
Australian players - please include a $1.85 stamp
International players - please include a well-hidden US $2 OR a Global Forever stamp

ALL players please include a LARGE address label (at least 2" x2"). I will provide envelopes.

1) do your best work - I plan to swap effort-for-effort as much as I can
2) clearly write your USERNAME and the SWAP NAME on the back of all your cards (so you can get fun Rep comments) and on the back of your mailing envelope. I am running a few swaps and do not want to put you with the wrong returns.
3) please mail early to allow time to reach Australia
4) an extra card for the swap Host is greatly appreciated but is not required
5) I will give feedback when I receive your cards and update this post. In return, I encourage you to give Host feedback when you receive your returns, and Rep comments to the artists whose cards you receive. After all, knowing where your cards went is half the fun, I think.

I have a roll of 4" double sided tape and found the easiest way to attach the foil to my card was to use this tape on card (this then allowed me to trim the edges, which didn't seem to colour as well as the rest). I also found that I needed to use light weight card as the base or the embossing wasn't as clear.
I crinkled foil and added it to a 4” x8” piece of card. 1791498401862.png I cut this in half and added inks directly to the pieces 1791498368739.jpegthen cut them to ATC size.
Next I stuck my foil flat to the base card – left is shiny side up, right is matt side up. 1791498368747.jpeg I embossed them both with a 3D folder and used the same inks on both. To finish I used a sanding block over them, just as shown on Oarsum Crafts by KJ. 1791498368758.jpeg

For my next card I pounced ink over my embossed card using a felt applicator. I then applied different colours using a Q-tip dipped in a puddle of alcohol ink on a stamping block. I found that to darken the colour I had to wait till the original application was dry, otherwise I simply removed the colour.
The complete design 1791499053089.jpeg(3” x4”) and cut down to ATC size 1791499075227.png

I think that this is my current favourite card – I used an embossing folder with an open design and dropped the ink directly into the debossed sections, turning the card to move the ink to all parts of that section.
I found that I had to do each section on its own or the 2nd section’s ink dried before I could move it around.
I tried to remove the extra ink which had spilled onto the raised parts of the design by dipping a Q-tip into Blending solution. This didn’t remove ALL the colour but it lightened it beautifully. 1791499053094.jpeg

I think this is really pretty! @2esmom has made a few like these, very varied looks—I had no idea how it was done, it’s really great; I got one in a trade.

For me, this means two new techniques: using a die-cutting machine for embossing and using alcohol inks. 😁 I don’t have any yet, but I’ve ordered some and they should arrive in the next few days.

I’ll give it a try to see if it works and looks good…
Then I’d love to join in! 😀

I've never done that before. I think I have the materials. I'd love to give it a try.
Sign me up, please.

lurking while i try to figure out if i can do this. I don't have any alcohol inks the warning always scared me away, but i might buy one or two.

welcome to all the lurkers - enjoy my lumpy lurkers' couch.
MACE - I find that, as long as I work with my window open, I can spend all day playing with my alcohol inks with no ill effects.
welcome to Antjen and 2esmom - hope you have as much fun as I did making your cards

haagmm - I love that we seem to have the same embossing folder and we both used it with brown inks. I am still playing with my foil and inks, do you want to keep playing? I would be happy with your current cards but you don't seem to be - still plenty of playing time, don't rush.

yeah I just worry a little because of my asthma and its getting chilly here in the states. I did order 3 bottles of the alcohol ink and some foil stuff so I'll be joining after that arrives. I was going to try some of the foil tape mentioned in one of the videos you directed us too also if that is ok.
