MEDIA:
Mixed Media Collage, not just paper collage (“mixed” = use at least 2 art media (fibers, chalk, inks, acrylics, etc.) combined with those yummy paper collage bits we all love.

ABOUT THE THEME:
For decades (plus!) dance junkies have been thrilled to watch creative interpretations of the full length feature ballet known as Swan Lake. If you search online, you will find the story plot, pictures of costumes, and overall wow! In general, all the action and intrigue happens among a gathering of swans in their lake habitat.
For this swap, you will be creating 3 ATC’s depicting ballerinas AND/OR just actual swan birds.
Traditionally, the swans are represented by ballerinas in white (or black) costumes, but follow your muse for this swap!!!

SOME EXTRA GUIDELINES:
  • Each ATC should be in its own plastic sleeve
  • On the back of your ATC, please include: your real name, your user name, the swap name, and your location on this big blue marble we call the world!
  • Please avoid bulky/heavy embellishments (they crush your lovely artwork and inflate postage costs)
  • 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" dimensions only
  • A host card is always very much appreciated, but not required to play along
MAILING INFO:
  • I will provide return envelopes… so include your mailing info on a piece of paper!
  • Please provide a postage stamp to cover cost
  • International Players: Please send one global forever stamp, or a well concealed $1 bill (USD)

Hi I think I’m gonna try this one! I love ballet and used to dance :)
 
Here are my cards for this swap. The dancers are clip art purchased on Etsy, resized, printed and fussy cut. The backgrounds are watercolor and stamping, with gold ink stars. Edged in archival ink.

Mine are almost finished. They've taken time, but also really been fun to work on. Ballet has a special place in my heart, though I didn't take ballet classes. I took modern dance, which was a better idea as I didn't have the discipline or body strength. Anyway, I haven't worked on anything dance-themed for awhile and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the imagery, so thanks for proposing the swap!
 
My cards are on their way - I have stitched, used coloured pencils, Inktense pencils, rhinestone and sometimes a punch on my first 3 cards. the final card is paper piecing with embossing and snipping on Distress Oxide ripples. I hope that is mixed enough media.

In Australia all swans are black (in fact the black swan is the state bird of Western Australia) so white swans look strange to me. When I was researching the correct colour to stitch my cygnets I discovered that ALL (for both black and white swans) cygnets are grey - no wonder the yellow ducklings thought that he was ugly!

Wowzers, Donna, your cards are amazing! Can’t wait to see them IRL. Lots of interesting info, too. Fun to learn that we see mostly white swans here and you see mostly black swans there!
