Ever read "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky? Terrific book containing information that will cause you to say a word or two of gratitude every time you reach for that omnipresent shaker of salt. A friend recently brought me a 6x6" chunk of pink salt from South Africa, where local tribesmen collect brine in puddles and work it as it dries into large chunks of delicate crystals. The history of salt is SO amazing!
Sorry, don't mean to be a post hog, but I happened to just see this bit about salt I thought especially relevant, though you probably already knew about it. :-)
Gandhi led at least 100,000 people on the "Dandi March" or "Salt Sayyagraha," in which protesters made their own salt from the sea, which was illegal under British rule, as it avoided paying the "salt tax". This civil disobedience inspired millions of common people, and elevated the Indian Independence Movement from an elitist struggle
and my two cents. i just bought a candle holder that is carved out of salt from the himalayas. when it heats up it releases negative ions which help clear the air. it looks like rose quartz and glows pretty pink. i've heard there are salt caverns in the world that are health clinics or spas and can work wonders. the earth does provide everything we need if we look hard enough for it. and take care of her.
look at what your cool card has accomplished. good art makes people communicate, right?
