Swap Due Date - Thursday July 2nd

Number of Cards - 3 for3 or 6 for 6
Number of participants - unlimited
Medium: Acrylic inks plus

Recently I purchased some acrylic inks. Before I bought my first set, I had not heard of them. These inks are made with pigments, not dyes. You can easily mix them with eachother and/or water. Vibrant colors. When they dry, they are water resistant. So wash your brushes well or they will forever be the color you used them for. They are permanent inks. These inks do not fade nor do they move when dry. Good for layering.
I am hoping that some of you know how to use these inks. Otherwise we will all be experimenting and exploring them together. There are videos on how to use them.

There are a variety of brands and prices. I began with Liquitex as I have other products by them. I got the primary colors and then a blue set. I also bought another brand, maybe MontMarte .I don't like that these have that little ball inside.
I like making lines of color with the droppers that are attached to the lids. Then I spritz them with water. I also like to blow through a straw to make little color bursts.
I ordered some clear gesso and figured out that I could also use a clear glaze or gel medium to coat text pages. When dry, I put ink down and spritz with water. When the inks are dry, I have added circles printed with lids and Stazon.
So your challenges include experimenting with ways to use acrylic inks and sharing those tips on this swap thread. Feel free to add other elements such as text, glazes, stamping, marker lines or scribbles... I also want to try these inks on different kinds of paper.

The Other Stuff that you need to know:

* Sign up on this swap thread.
* Each ATC needs its own sleeve.
* If your card is floppy, back it with heavy cardstock or light cardboard.

Mailing-Everyone, send in paper or a sticky with your mailing address. *** I will provide envelopes for everyone
US players send one of 2 forever stamps.
International players, I will provide postage for you.

For envelope travel, either slightly overlap your cards and put washi or painters tape across them, front and back. This prevents them from danching
& breaking the envelope. Taping the back flap is also helpful. Some people put a strip or something across their cards. I don't.
Send your cards by regular mail. Make your cards early and mail early. I do not wait for late cards.
Do not use certified mail. That needs a signature or needs to be picked up from a post office. Your mail needs to come to my mailbox.

You are either making ATCs with acrylic inks on them or mixed media ATCs that include acrylic inks.

thanks to this swap I have just discovered that I was gifted some acrylic ink but have never used it as I had no idea how. . .
sign me up and I will explore

Adding you both. I made some samples on watercolor paper and pinned them to the wall next to my dining table. And cleared all the arty stuff off the table. I have a guest coming on suday and we need the table for lunch. But my son is here only for part of the day.

My plan is to go to Home Depot and buy some bags of dirt. With my son so I have someone who can move the dirt into my car and out of it when we get home.

thanks for sharing. I might watch some more videos tomorrow. I have a lot of options for tomorrow. Mail shape cards & do some grocery shopping, figure out who I am voting for, make some dictionary word ATCs or Number 1 ATCs or cat ones. I hope to feel better tomorrow.

Only junk mail today. There is an airshow happening at our small airport this weekend. Jets are practicing today. So this will be an inside weekend for me. time for arting!

I have not joined a swap in.... gosh.... over a year.
By chance I signed into ATCsForAll today and happened upon this post.
I bought some acrylic inks at our thrift store a couple of year ago. Drew a couple of cards with a dip pen and never went back to it.
Perhaps this will give me the momentum to USE them again!?!?!
Please sign me up.
I'm ready for some fun art conversation again.
(THAT is what I miss most!)
OK... I found one of the ATCs I made with acrylic ink. I think I traded it during an ATART. Let's see if I can show it here... I remember this used to be hard.... yeah, it still is....Weird. If I copy and paste that link into the browser, it does find my picture.
off to see if I can find directions that make sense to me.....

WOW... I clicked the "Save" button and my picture magically appeared!

you have better luck than me with posting. I am currently exploring acrylic inks with alcohol inks on yupo.I yhink the acrylic inks form a nonporous surface.

Old school calligraphy pen with changeable tips that you dip into the ink. Also read about asemic writing which just looks like writing but doesn't actually say anything; it's just for the design of it. There's some in the samples I found that I posted earlier. The pens will be perfect for that too.

I LOVE Yupo with alcohol ink or alcohol markers. I haven't tried acrylic ink on it yet.

So this thread is already challenging me to try new things!

I am SO happy I discovered this swap! Yesterday I took out those old inks, found two different types of "dip pen" and practiced mark-making on two different surfaces: watercolor paper and Yupo.

I learned that the glass pen creates big pools that do not dry very nicely on Yupo.
I learned that the old-fashioned "nib" pen can make very very fine lines.
I learned that is is SO easy to make mistakes.
I learned that pen-and-ink are so much harder to control than the Pigma Micron pens I usually use!
I learned that my BAD-est habit from my youth come back to haunt me: dragging my hand across still-wet portions of the page. (on a 2.5 x 3.5 surface, even!)
I learned that you CAN wipe a mistake off of Yupo... but it is tricky.

Thanks for sharing. This will be the first time in ages I'm using ink as well. I thought the dip pen would replace microns but sounds like maybe not. I'm thinking we have to embrace the 'mistakes' as a part of the process like in lino prints. Can't wait to get mine next week!
Oh, I think the dip pen could easily replace Pigma Microns for someone who is
A. Neat
B. Works at a table!
Unfortunately, that's NOT me.
With that finer metal pen I was able to get VERY nice lines, with the thick-to-thin-and-back-again capabilities of a good pen. The brush tip markers imitate brush work well... but not classic pen work.
I love the examples you posted. Asematic (sp?) writing always attracts my eye. I can see it working well with ink.

I have yet to research any hints or techniques. Just jumped in and started playing!

I'm tired of watching videos on these inks .I have just been playing also. What I have been doing about ink puddles is to blow through a straw at the puddle. this works for acrylic inks and acohol ink ones.

There must be some interesting things you can do with acrylic inks. Otherwise why did they come into being?
