Maybe you have seen the beautiful cards made by Jo.on.the.go, extending scenes with Washi tape. They really impressed me, so I asked if she wanted to host a swap for us. She was very busy at the time, so she suggested I host one. So, after trying it out myself, I am hosting this swap with her blessing.
You can get Washi tape with landscapes on them. That is the kind we will be using here, not something like a random wallpaper design like butterflies, flowers or abstract designs. I got my Washi tapes from Amazon, and she got hers there as well. They come in a little box with a variety of landscape tapes, mine was called Four Seasons. The tape that comes in these boxes are varied widths, I made my cards using the widest tapes. This box of tapes costs about $10 (sometimes they have sale prices). That may sound pricey, but we can always use excess Washi tape for taping cards together when mailing for swaps. If the price seems prohibitive, I have some tapes I’m happy to provide, just ask!
The tape should extend from edge to edge of your card. You can do a portrait orientation (vertical) or a landscape orientation (horizontal, and maybe the best choice). You can extend upward from the top tape edge (most distant view), and downward from the bottom tape edge, which becomes the foreground, appearing closest to the viewer.
The scene extensions you paint look nicely blended together if you paint a bit here and there right over the tape edges (top and bottom). I made the samples below using acrylics (purple skies) and watercolors for the African scene. I personally prefer the acrylics. I’m sure Jo will show us some of her cards as well. I had fun with this, planning the scene extensions, choosing (or mixing) matching colors, etc. I hope you have fun as well.
CARDS and MAILING:
- Please protect each finished card by placing in an acetate sleeve (individual “penny” sleeve).
- Include on the reverse of each card: Swap title, your username, your real name, anything else you want to add.
-Spread cards evenly to fit within your mailing envelope and secure to each other with Washi tape or Painters tape.
- Please enclose a Forever stamp plus a label with your mailing address on it.
- INTERNATIONAL Players, please send your mailing address plus either a Global Forever stamp OR a $1.00 bill.
