Let There Be Dragons -- Due October 24, 2026

Did you know that Minnesota has its very own dragon?
This is "Rusty", and he has his own web-site!

Found in Ogilvie, Minnesota, is a HUGE (10 Foot) dragon that actually is a fire-breathing dragon.
If possible, go at dusk or during the evening because when Rusty breathes fire, it is SO COOL!!!

I took my inspiration for House of the Dragon and did some of my favorite dragons and scenes. Mailing out on Monday.

Most people have heard of Zeus, Odin, Quetzalcoatl, but not many know about Ryugen, the Japanese dragon god of the sea.
Some sources say Ryugen rules the ocean from HIS underwater palace (making him MALE)
HE isn't just a dragon, HE is a bridge between the human and spirit world, a formidable figure of transformation, power, and balance.

Others name this dragon "Zennya Ryuo", (or sometimes BOTH names are used, so it appears this is the same dragon) but now it is a FEMALE Japanese rain dragon deity
How does one determine sex of a dragon?
Maybe if boys wore blue bowties, and the girls had pink ones, it would help.
One certainly can NOT determine dragon gender by personality -- some of the "ladies" are really nasty!

Meet Fafnir, our Norse Dragon
dragon.JPG
Originally a compelling shape-shifting dwarf, (or a powerful dwarf magician, depending on source material), Fafnir became corrupted by greed for his father's gold. He killed his father, and according to some accounts also his brother (or brothers) in order to claim all the gold. He fell asleep on top of his coveted gold, and as he slept changed into a nasty tempered, gold-hoarding, mean spirited, cave dragon.
Fafnir breathes a venomous mist, NOT fire, as do most other dragons. This mist surrounds his lair, and humans and heroes breathing it lose all courage and usually die before being able to battle Fafnir, let alone kill him.

Do NOT confuse this dragon (Fafnir) with Barney the purple dragon from Sesame Street, (who is actually a purple dinosaur anyway),
nor with the familiar gold-hoarding dragon, Smaug, from Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit.

Fafnir is unique, as are all dragons.

The Chinese Dragon, or Long Dragon (sometimes spelled loong), is a legendary, snake-like creature, sometimes with no legs, sometimes depicted with four legs. with sharp (eagle-like) claws.
Unlike the nasty, (usually mean), Western dragons, the Chinese Long Dragon is a kind, lucky, symbol that controls water, rain, and weather to help crops grow.

Physical Traits
    • Long, slender, snake-like body covered in scales.
    • Four legs with sharp claws.
    • Eyes like a rabbit or demon.
    • No wings, but able to both fly through the air and dominate the sky, as well as swim in water.

Meaning and Power
    • Water Masters: The long dragon rules rivers, lakes, oceans, and rain.
    • Masters of the Air: No wings, but dominates the sky. Flows on cooling breezes. Moderates weather to help crops grow.
    • Good Luck: They bring prosperity, peace, and great fortune.
