Let's go digging - An archeological Swap - Swap Date April 27, 2026

Signing up very late. Here are my cards. I'm heading off to the PO to mail them this morning.

Bird-Man from Rapa Nui.jpg Bird-Man Sculpture, Rapa Nui (late 18th century)
The sculpture is located in The British Museum. It is about 12" high, 20" wide, 10" deep. The birdman competition on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) involved swimming to the nearby island of Matu Nui to capture eggs from the sooty tern.

These ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings were first created about 650 CE and reached the peak between 1100 and 1200 CE

The sculpture was created about 1345 BCE and is now located in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Figures are about 2 - 4" high and frequently found in shrines, graves and houses. They are thought to represent goddesses, possibly associated with fertility.

This was the entrance to the firtified palace of the town and took its name from the two lions above the gate.

Swap Details:
When I was young ( many many moons ago), I wanted to be an archeologist. I saw myself digging dinosaur bones, ancient cities or finding buried antiquities.
The point of this swap is to create cards depicting archeological sites, bones or museum pieces that were dig by archeologists.

How to participate:
• Please sign up by posting to this thread.
• Make sure your cards are made out of sturdy material and are 2.5" x 3.5"
• Include your Username, swap name, your location, and the date in the back of each card.
• Each card should be sent in an individual clear protective sleeve.
• A hostess card is not necessary, but if you decide to send me one, I will treasure it.
• If you need to withdraw, please just let me know.
• When you are ready to mail your cards: send me a PM for my address. I haven't moved so if you have my address from previous swaps, it is still the same.

Mailing
  • Please include a large address label or a piece of paper with your address as well as enough postage to cover your returns. I will provide the return envelope.
  • Please write your user name and the swap in the back of your envelope.
  • International participants: I will cover your return postage.
As I receive your cards, I will post received by your name on the thread. When you receive your returns, don't forget to provide feedback to your host and leave a reputation note to your fellow artists.
