Magical "Horses"

This swap calls forth all the "Magical Horses" you can think of:
I am looking for the horses most of us are familiar with, horses such as Centaurs, Unicorns, Pegasus, Kelpi

I am also looking for the less well known horses such as:
Logma (a Chinese winged horse with dragon scales)
Sleipnir (A Norse, magical, grey horse, with eight legs and runes carved into his teeth, that pulls Odin's chariot)
Hippogriff (Front half is an eagle with wings -- Back half is a huge and very powerful horse)

Remember Buckbeak from the Harry Potter series?
Buckbeak is a proud, loyal, male Hippogriff with the head, wings, and front legs of an eagle, and the body, hind legs, and tail of a horse.

And here are three more I knew nothing about, so I am doing some research on them.
See page two for pictures.
Nuckelavee
Qilin
Re'em

Mix and match your horse choices, or draw the same breed of horse if you have a favorite.

* This is a 3 for 3 or a 6 for 6 card trade. Make 3 or 6 ATCs cards and receive the same number back.

* ALL mediums and techniques are welcome. Please make sure you add some depth to your cards, whatever style you choose. Your mediums can include, but are not limited to: paper, tissue paper, crayon, acrylic, watercolor, gel pens, colored pencil, rubber stamping, ink, newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, etc. Please do not take an image, cut it out, glue it to a card, and call it done. Color the background. Add some texture. Add more than one image. Make the ATC YOUR CREATION! Please send in your best work. Something you would not be disappointed in receiving if it was sent to you.

* Please sign up by posting to this thread.
* ONLY ATCs allowed. No APCs accepted.
* All cards need to be sent each in their own plastic sleeve.
* All cards need to be standard ATC size: 2.5” x 3.5”
* All cards need to be sturdy enough to earn the name “card” (no floppy or flimsy paper). If it is created on a single sheet of paper, please back your ATC with something stiffer, or more firm, such as a cereal box.

* Just as important, check for cards that are too thick. Each card must still be capable of fitting into the standard ATC sleeve. If your ATC will not fit into an ATC sleeve, it is too bulky.
* Please put the Swap name and your Username on the back of all cards. And please write clearly on everything!
.....I can't give you itrades and others can't give you Reputation points if we don't know who you are.
* Please confirm there is enough postage on both the envelope you send to me, and the envelope I need to send back to you.

* If you are unsure about mailing ATCs, or just may want to pick up some good tips for mailing your cards,
there is a great link in the Site FAQs.
HOW TO: Pack and Mail your ATCs for Swaps

* I apologize for being so demanding about the envelope size, but that affects total thickness, and the postal rates in the U.S. charge extra for thickness. When cards are stacked, or overlapped, in (a smaller) envelope, it almost always increases thickness, and thus costs more to mail. In addition, If you send me a small envy, the cards may get stacked. When I use the 4 inch by 9 1/2 inch business size envelopes, I can spread the cards over the area, making a THIN package, and only pay for basic (minimum) postage. This also allows the envelope to pass through the cancelling machine (which is a double roller mechanism that compresses the envelope while it reads the mailing address and checks weight) without stacking the ATCs. If the cards are loose, they can slide to one end, making a think bulge, often destroying the envelope and sometimes tearing out of the envelope entirely.

* If you are inside the U.S., please include a Self Addressed Stamped Business Size Envelope (Approximately 4 by 9 1/2 inches), with one "Forever" stamp or current First Class Postage if trading 3 cards; or one "Forever" and one additional ounce postage stamp if trading 6 cards, OR if your cards are extra heavy or extra bulky (or 2 forever stamps if that is easier).

* International participants, if you have U.S. funds, or U.S. postage, it is greatly appreciated. However, since many of you do not have access to U.S. stamps/money, I will cover your postage. Please include a self-addressed envelope 4 by 9 1/2 inches (10 x 28 cm), or if you do not have the correct size envelope, please include a large mailing label with your address and I will provide the envelope.

* Share pics if you can. Everyone enjoys seeing what others are creating.
If you do share, be sure to delete your pics before the swap is archived so that they won't count toward your gallery usage.

* Cards are due IN MY HANDS by December 11, 2026. Please allow sufficient lead time for cards to get to me, particularly if you are an international participant. Please try to mail your cards early!! Delivery times are taking much longer than we are used to. Unfortunately, I do not know why??

* Returns will be mailed promptly. Players, when you receive your returns for this swap, please leave Feedback for your HOST ONLY (me), and please take the time to leave Reputation points for your fellow players from whom you receive cards.

* A hostie card in this theme is appreciated but not at all expected!

* Thank you for considering this swap! If you have my address from previous swaps, it hasn't changed. If you are new, or have not been in one of my swaps for a while, please send a direct message to me for my address when you sign up or when you are ready to mail.

* Above all, Have fun!

I'm just gonna lurk for the moment but the chances of me signing up for this one before long is really high.
Lurkers always welcome.
Have a seat on the lurker's bench while you decide.
Help yourself to some hot tea or coffee while I water the horses, and see if your muse strikes.

Unicorn in Captivity (Tapestry)

Medieval Unicorn and Ouroboros Tapestry for Framing: Jacquard ...
The Unicorn Tapestries are a famous set of seven late-Gothic wall hangings created between 1495 and 1505.
The tapestries were hand-woven, one stitch at a time, (by young girls who often ruined their eyesight with the close work in poor light)
created in the Southern Netherlands (likely Brussels) from wool, silk, silver, and gilt threads, using designs created in France.
They are permanently housed at The Met Cloisters in New York City.
Definitely visit if you can.

The tapestries are stunning, obviously so in photographs, but particularly awesome in real life!!!

I have to admit - I am all horsed out!

I loved all the ideas, and couldn’t choose… so I did the whole list and a bonus. I hadn’t actually seen the unicorn post in thread, which is funny, because when I was picking my colours I was like - I don’t want bubblegum unicorn… tapestry!

I have always struggled with horse anatomy so I made a stamp and blocked off the bits that would change when printing it, and then drew in the variation. I forgot of course, that meant the anatomy I struggled with on the stamp would then be repeated (the face has more essence of barbie dream horse than I was aiming for, and the body is a bit short) but I am pretty happy overall with how the set turned out!

sign me up, please
when we were in Scotland we saw the huge, metal kelpie statues - stunning!!

would you mind if I used a set of stamps I have that make a unicorn rock band?
Welcome, Donnacr.
I signed youup.
I was not aware Scotland had kelpie statues.
I will look that up.

Your idea of stamps tomake a unicorn rock band sounds AWESOME.

Go for it!
I cannot wait to see your creation.

AWESOME assortment, Amai!
LOVE, LOVE all your horses.

What is the red brand mark on Sleipnir's hip?
I am sure it means something??????

By the way, it appears you have not yet signed up, so I have signed you up.
Welcome!

Whoops, I mean to do that at the top of my post, and got too excited about the horses. Thanks for catching that! I don’t know what the brand means - when I was looking into it, I found a description saying 8 legs and rune. When I was looking for reference, I found this one https://www.worldhistory.org/Sleipnir/ and went with it. When I went back looking to answer, I couldn’t find where I saw the rune comment… 😂

Thanks for the reply
I will do some research and see if I can find your "rune" comment.

VERY interesting.

I was researching Sleipnir before I posted this swap, and was reminded of Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
That book might have that information.
Now if I can just find the book, I know I have a copy -- somewhere~

A Giant was commissioned to finish building the walls of Asgard, on a tight deadline, that had only himself and his stallion doing the supply hauling and actual building.
To create a problem intended to prevent the Giant's re-building project being completed by deadline, Loki turned himself into a beautiful mare, paraded herself/himself before the giant's stallion, and lured the stallion into secret sex, resulting in the breaking of the contract to re-build Asgard by deadline, as well as the birth of the 8 legged horse Sleipnir.

Talk about "affairs" of the gods!
