Tarot Cards Again! Due April 3 2026

Welcome Krafty Kelly, Jumpingjujube, and Nanvan! Glad to have you all as part of the swap. Nanvan -have fun dipping back into Tarot. Are you working on a set, or just enjoying all the designs?
A long time ago, I used to read Tarot cards (for friends) - the Rider-Waite deck. I do enjoy all the designs of the different decks but only working on cards for this swap. Thanks for hosting another one!

Welcome @AmethystStar ! Indeed, there have been some really fun and creative swaps in the past and nice to see some brought back occasionally. (I always thought the Clue/Cludo swap was really fun. Though my next swap after this might be based on Rossetti's Goblin Market.)

@Bloodofeve - I'm intrigued by the idea of abstract Tarot cards, yet since these get shared out I'm not sure how well that might go if some folks are figuring on more representative styling. How abstracted are you thinking? Would there still be a representative element, like I could see a Piet Mondrian influenced card of wands where you could still see the wands in the abstraction, vs say a Helen Frankenthaler's Persian Garden, which has a name but nothing particularly representative (I think; though I could be ignorant on this.) Interesting question!

Hi Pancake Machine,
I was looking along the lines of in the style of Kandinsky (later work), but keeping the important symbolism like the traditional symbols and hebrew text . It might be an idea if I post a sample idea and then get some feed back from everyone. I've a habit of thinking outside the box sometimes when working on a prompt. So if the consensous is a more traditional route I'm cool with that.

My cards - hopefully its okay that I have some actual decks in my pics - the non atc ones are not my work! I have a bunch of really cool decks, and I wanted to pay homage to them without straight copying a card, so I picked 4 cards (at near but not quite random) from my standard deck and then made my version of that card to fit in with the theme deck if that makes sense. It was a lot of fun. Shown are card from Tarofax, the Buffy tarot deck, tarot of the dragons and the Arthurian Tarot.
